  1. My keypad is beeping, What is the problem?
Answer: Usually this means a loss of 110 volt power to the system, or the phone dialer in the panel failed to reach the central station with a message it wanted to transmit. To silence the beeping tone press COMMAND 4.

  2. The red AC light is blinking. What does this mean?
Answer: The 110 volt power has been loss for the alarm system. Reset any tripped breaker or turn on the power. Be sure that a wall switch does not control the plug which the alarm transformer is plugged into.

  3. What is a wireless system versus a hardwired system?
What type does Star use, and why?
Answer: A wireless system is a group of short-range radio transmitters that sends signals to a receiver that triggers a control panel. Each transmitter requires a battery to keep it running. The batteries must be replaced about every two years. False alarms occur due to radio frequency interference, and are annoying.

A hard wired system is a system that is physically wired from each protected opening or motion detector directly back to the control panel. The wires are usually concealed inside walls, attics, closets, or underneath carpets.

In our opinion, hard wired systems are better because there is nothing better than wires bringing a signal back to a control panel. It is more reliable and requires less maintenance. Is your wireless phone that reliable all the time? Most large alarm marketing companies use wireless systems. Why? Because it is faster to install and doesn't require the extensive training that is required to hard wire a home or business properly. Hence a fast, but probably not a reliable system in the long run.
